Ordizia was founded by Alfonso X the Wise, King of Castile, in 1256. Today the town is known for its over 500-year-old market where farmers bring their goods for sale every Wednesday. The Ordizia market is particularly important because it serves as a price benchmark for farm produce sold elsewhere in the Basque Country. The buildings in the old town are also worth a visit.
